Talk to Your Timeline
Describe what you want in plain English — "add captions," "give this a cinematic teal-and-orange grade," "trim the dead air" — and the assistant proposes concrete, clickable edits. Nothing changes without your approval.
What You Can Ask For
- Find footage by description and add it to the timeline
- Trim silence, split clips, reorder them
- Apply effects, transitions, color grades, and LUTs
- Add titles and generate captions
- Detect scene changes and drop chapter markers
- Adjust opacity, volume, or playback speed
- Add fades, build compound clips, switch multicam angles
- Set loudness targets and open the export panel
Automatic Captions
Captions are transcribed entirely on your Mac using Apple's on-device Speech framework — no upload, no API key. Lines break naturally at pauses and punctuation and land frame-accurately on the timeline.
Scene Detection & Auto-Reframe
Scene Detection flags shot boundaries and drops chapter markers automatically. Auto-Reframe keeps your subject centered when cropping into a different aspect ratio (e.g. 16:9 to 9:16), using on-device face and subject detection.
Smart, Content-Aware Search
Lunar Studio quietly analyzes each imported clip — what's in the shot, shot type, dominant colors — so you can search "wide shot of the beach at sunset" and find matching clips instantly.
Privacy by Design
| Mode | How it works | Data leaves your Mac? |
|---|---|---|
| On-device (default) | Apple's Speech, Vision, and language frameworks | No |
| Apple Intelligence | Apple's on-device foundation model | No |
| Cloud (optional, BYOK) | Your own Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini key | Yes, directly to your chosen provider |
The cloud option is entirely opt-in and never uploads your actual video or audio — only a summary of the editor state needed to plan a response.
