What is Lunar Studio?
Lunar Studio is an AI-native video editor for macOS. It combines a professional multi-track timeline, node-based color grading, a Fusion-style compositor, a full audio mixing console, and a plain-language AI assistant — so you get a Final Cut Pro-style editor, a DaVinci Resolve-style color page, and an approachable AI assistant in one app.

What are the system requirements?
Lunar Studio is a native macOS application requiring macOS 14 or later.

Do I need an internet connection to use it?
No. Editing, color grading, compositing, audio mixing, and the core AI features (captions, scene detection, auto-reframe, smart search) all run entirely on your Mac. An internet connection is only needed for optional cloud AI features if you choose to connect your own API key.

Pricing & Licensing

What's the difference between the free and paid tiers?
The free tier includes the full editor plus every on-device AI feature (captions, scene detection, auto-reframe, semantic search) at no cost. Paid Pro tiers add access to a cloud-based AI reasoning assistant for more advanced, conversational editing — either through a subscription with a built-in hosted assistant, or a one-time lifetime purchase where you connect your own AI provider key.

Can I use my own AI provider (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini)?
Yes. Lunar Studio supports bringing your own API key for Anthropic Claude, OpenAI ChatGPT, or Google Gemini. Requests go directly from your Mac to your chosen provider.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed and managed through your Apple ID. Go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your Mac or iPhone to manage or cancel.

Privacy

Does Lunar Studio upload my footage anywhere?
No. Transcription, scene detection, auto-reframe, and smart search all run on-device. Your video and audio are never uploaded as part of these features. See our Privacy Policy for full details, including how the optional cloud AI assistant works.

Features

What color grading tools are included?
A node-based color page with full ASC CDL support, an extensive built-in LUT library (Arri, RED, Sony, Canon, DJI, Panasonic, Blackmagic Design, ACES, and more), and waveform/parade/vectorscope/histogram scopes.

Does it support multicam editing?
Yes — group synchronized angles into a multicam clip and cut between them live from the Multicam Inspector.

Can multiple people edit the same project together?
Yes, through Lunar Studio's real-time collaboration feature, with live cursors, presence, comments, and roles. See the Knowledge Base for a full walkthrough.

What formats can I export to?
H.264, HEVC (with 10-bit HDR support), and ProRes (422, 422 HQ, and 4444), with built-in delivery presets for YouTube, Vimeo, and social platforms.
